A man has been charged in connection with a fatal crash that killed an 11-year-old boy when he was knocked down by a bin lorry in Edinburgh earlier this year.
Thomas Wong was struck as he rode his bike in the Whitehouse Road area of the capital on Friday, March 1, around 8.20am. Emergency services attended but the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Over nine months later, police have confirmed that a 28-year-old man has been charged with a road traffic offence and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
He is expected to appear in court at a later date.
Following the tragic incident in March, Thomas’ family paid tribute to the boy describing him as the “perfect son”.
They said: “We are utterly heartbroken. Thomas was the perfect son. He was the best little brother to his older sister and was adored by all his family.
“Thomas went to Cramond Primary School which he loved. He made good friends there. We will all miss him terribly. We are very grateful for all the sympathy and heartfelt messages we have received from people. Thank you.”
Helen Donaldson, head teacher at Cramond Primary School, also paid tribute to the pupil.
She said: “We are utterly devastated by the tragic news of the sudden death of one our pupils. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
“He was always smiling. He was a positive, friendly and curious member of our school community. He was kind and always eager to support others, and will be greatly missed by all of us.
