A drunk customer lost the plot after a shop assistant mistakenly offered him women’s shoes to try on.
Paul Ferrie, of Grange Tower, Motherwell, yelled ‘I’m not f*****g gay!’ then started pulling clothes off hangers before producing a knife.
Ferrie, 34, who had earlier caused a scene in another shop, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
He admitted threatening or abusive behaviour, theft and assault in Wishaw on September 7.
The trouble began when he went into the Lidl supermarket in Roberts Street about midday.
Ferrie wandered into a staff-only room and rummaged through items before putting three body-worn cameras in his pocket.
He then started shouting at a member of staffing, telling him ‘You’ve been marked’.
Ferrie moved on to Peacocks, a clothing store in Main Street, where he took exception to being given the women’s shoes.
Lewis Devoy, prosecuting, said: “He became aggressive towards staff and was asked to leave but refused.
“He then took items of clothing from hangers and threw them on the floor.
“Ferrie left the store but returned a few minutes later. He was fidgeting with an item in his pocket and was then seen to have a silver blade in his hand.
“He was challenged and left the store.”
Police were called and officers saw Ferrie, who was intoxicated, leave another shop and throw one of the body-worn cameras, hitting a man on the body.
Ferrie, who was on bail at the time of the offences, admitted previous convictions.
His lawyer told the court: “He is under no illusions about how serious this matter is.”
Sheriff Michael Higgins deferred sentence for background reports and an electronic tagging assessment.
He revoked Ferrie’s bail, remanding him in custody over Christmas.
The sheriff told him: “This must have been distressing for the people involved and you have a history of disorder.
“A custodial sentence is at the forefront of my mind, given this conduct and your record.”
