Max George has updated fans after sharing the concerning news that he may have to spend Christmas in hospital.

The Wanted star, 36, was rushed to hospital on Wednesday when he became “really unwell”. Further tests revealed he has heart problems which require further examination and possibly an operation.

From his hospital bed, Max recorded a video which he posted on Instagram, appearing frail yet resolved to cheer for his beloved football team Man City, who face Man United this Sunday according to reports in the Mirror.

He expressed his determination with a message for his team: “So I think they are officially trying to kill me off. Come on boys we better win on Sunday!”

A glimpse at his medical chart, which prompted him to note ‘what matters to me most today’, showed the words ‘Seeing the Man City game’.

In a heartfelt update the previous day, Max opened up to his 360,000 Instagram fans about the tough road ahead due to his sudden health issues, stating “it’s gonna be a difficult few weeks/months” while informing them of his unexpected hospital stay.

He said: “Hey everyone. Yesterday I felt really unwell and was taken in to hospital. Unfortunately after some tests they’ve found that I have some issues with my heart.

“I have a lot more tests to determine the extent of the problems and what surgery I will need to get me back on my feet. It’s gonna be a difficult few weeks / months… and Christmas in a hospital bed wasn’t exactly what I had planned! But, as always, I’m surrounded with love and support by my wonderful partner Maisie, her family, my family and friends.. and I’m 100% in the best place.”

Max added: “Although this is a huge shock and no doubt a set back, it’s something I’ll take on with all I’ve got! I count myself very lucky that this was caught when it was. Apologies if I bore you with updates in the coming weeks..I’ve probably got a month in a bed and there’s not THAT much to do! Let’s do this!”

Max’s girlfriend Maisie, 23, a former EastEnders actress and Strictly Come Dancing contestant, wrote below: “Love you Max,” followed by a love heart emoji, as he replied: “Love you sweet.”

In the comments friends, fans and other famous friends also offered their support, including Max’s The Wanted bandmate Siva Kaneswaran, who wrote: “Here for you brother. Rest up and get well soon.”

JLS star JB Gill expressed his wishes for a speedy recovery, saying: “God bless you bro, wishing you better soon Sending lots of love.” Marvin Humes posted: “Sorry to hear you’re not well geezer..you’re strong and will fight through..big love mate.”

Love Island’s Chloe Burrows also sent a message, saying: “Omg Maxy sending all my love xc.” Fellow Strictly stars rallied around sending their best wishes after Max’s stint on the BBC dance show in 2020. Pro dancer Karen Hauer wrote: “Get well soon lovely.”

Katya Jones shared her thoughts, saying: “Get well soon Max! Sending you all the positive energy x.” Nancy Xu also joined in, commenting: “Get well soon Max. Sending you lots of love.”
