A double-decker bus has crashed into a railway bridge in Glasgow leaving a number of passengers injured.

The incident happened around 5.55pm on Saturday evening on Cook Street in the Tradeston of the city centre.

Emergency services remain at the scene.

Pictures of the crash show significant damage to the First Bus with the front of the roof ripped off.

Eye witnesses have reported that some passengers had been struck and were covered in blood from the crash as the bus “drove straight into the bridge”.

Police have urged drivers to stay away from the area with several roads closed down. This includes Cook Street as well as parts of Commerce and Salkeld Streets.

Spike Turner was sitting near the front of the bus when it struck the bridge.

The 26-year-old sound engineer told the Record: “We drove straight into the bridge. It was quite shocking.

“I was third from the front. The whole front of the bus just collapsed.

“Parts of the bus exterior swung down and struck people in front of me.

“I felt my face and looked around me to see if everyone was okay.

“The lady in front of me was concussed.

“The man in the front seat was in a bad way. He was covered in blood and had a huge gash to his head.”
