PHOENIX (KPHO/Gray News) – A father and son are dead after investigators say a Tesla driver hit them on an Arizona freeway.
Arizona Department of Public Safety officials said the collision happened on the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway near Elliot Road at about 6:30 p.m. Friday.
The father and son had pulled their Chevrolet truck over to the shoulder because it had run out of gas, Bart Graves, with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, said.
According to Graves, they were apparently using a gas can to put fuel into the truck when a woman driving a Tesla hit them.
They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the father was in his 70s and his son was in his 40s. Their names were not immediately released.
The Tesla driver wasn’t impaired and stayed at the scene, Graves said.
The off-ramp at Elliot Road was shut down for hours for the on-scene investigation.
