Three others were assessed at the scene and attended at hospital.
A number of roads remain closed in the area. Cook Street is closed at Centre Street, Commerce Street is closed until Wallace Street and Salkeld Street is closed at Cook Street.

Police say enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
First Bus has spoken for the first time saying one of its buses on the 4A route in Glasgow was “involved in a bridge strike incident” at about 6pm “in which a double decker bus hit a railway bridge” on Cook Street.
A spokesman said: “We’re aware of numerous injuries, with one person being taken to hospital in an ambulance.
“We have launched an immediate investigation and are also assisting Police Scotland with their inquiries.
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident.”
Pictures of the crash show significant damage to the First Bus with the front of the roof ripped off. It is understood the bus was travelling down an incorrect road.
Spike Turner was sitting near the front of the bus when it struck the bridge.
The 26-year-old sound engineer told the Record: “We drove straight into the bridge. It was quite shocking.
“I was third from the front. The whole front of the bus just collapsed.
“Parts of the bus exterior swung down and struck people in front of me.
“I felt my face and looked around me to see if everyone was okay.
“The lady in front of me was concussed. The man in the front seat was in a bad way. He was covered in blood and had a huge gash to his head.”
Rail lines were suspended earlier due to the collision with the bridge which is on the line between Glasgow Central and Cardonald, but have now been reopened.
