BLUEFIELD, Va. – On Saturday, Dec. 14, Graham High School sent their football team off to the championship in style.
The G-Men are competing against Strasburg High School in Salem, Va., and their send off featured a crowd of supporters, including the cheerleaders and the band. Ahead of the big game, the head coach said he wasn’t nervous, but he and his team are ready to work.
“It’s a football game for us. We understand that there’s higher stakes at this, but we just got to try to stay level-headed and try to keep the guys level-headed and complete the task. We’ve just got to go out there and try to get it together,” said Tony Palmer, Head Football Coach of Graham High School.
Players on the team said they were excited to go and compete.
“I’m excited. I never go [to] the games nervous. I always go in excited because it’s not playing football. You go out there, have fun, play with your family,” said Jermonte, who plays Offensive and Defensive Line. “These guys are really my family, [I’ve] been with them for three years now. We can go out there and have fun and play ball.”
“I feel good about it. The coach put us in the best positions to win the game. You know, our plays, how we run our defense and just the feeling of the game is exciting,” continues Malachi, Wide Receiver and Offensive Linebacker.
”Yeah, me too. I mean, just go out and have fun. I’m not very nervous about the game. Just ready to perform,” adds Kevin, Offensive Linebacker.
Both the head coach and his players gave a spirited “Go G-Men!”
