A massive fire has erupted in Bristol, leaving eyewitnesses in shock as they watch the flames and smoke spread across the city.

Dramatic images show thick grey plumes of smoke billowing into the air, sparking concern among residents. A video shared on X, formerly Twitter, captures the intensity of the blaze, with flames visibly growing stronger.

Eyewitness accounts suggest the fire may have started in the St Werburgh’s area, though some locals believe it originated in Easton. Authorities have yet to confirm the exact location.

One witness described the scene, saying: “There’s a plume of black smoke rising from the city centre.” According to Bristol Live, the fire is near two large Evergreen shipping containers in what appears to be a storage yard. A source told the publication: “The fire is beside two huge Evergreen containers in what looks like a storage yard. There are also large blue containers nearby.”

Bristol city centre, known for its bustling shopping districts, historic pubs, and live music venues, has faced similar incidents in recent months. In September, a fire at the Radisson Blu hotel in Broad Quay tragically claimed a man’s life.

At the time, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that the fire originated within a hotel room. A spokesperson said: “Sadly, a man has died following a fire within a hotel room, in Broad Quay, on Friday evening (6 September). Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time. The death is not being treated as suspicious, and officers are preparing a file for a coroner.”

The cause of today’s fire remains unclear as emergency services respond to the scene. Police have been contatced for comment.
