Some fans of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here have criticised the annual Coming Out show, expressing their disappointment over an ‘awkward’ encounter with GK Barry.
The special episode, which traditionally airs after the series finale on ITV, is designed to offer a peek behind the scenes and capture the moment the celebs are reunited with loved ones in the luxury of a five-star hotel.
This year’s I’m A Celebrity Coming Out was broadcast on Friday (December 13), a mere five days after McFly’s Danny Jones secured the title of King of the Jungle.
Yet, the latest edition failed to win over viewers, prompting them to voice their discontent online. Critics felt that despite the gap between the final and the Coming Out show, it seemed hastily assembled compared to its predecessors, reports the Express.
One viewer remarked: “After such an excellent series a very badly put together and rushed coming out was.” Another chimed in: “The coming out show is so rushed now. Used to get so much footage, and even clips of them actually arriving into the UK. I hope they listen to us for next year. Still a brill show, and I still loved it!”
There were also comments that despite Ant and Dec’s hosting and recap of highlights, there was an excess of repeated footage. Viewers expressed surprise as relatives had featured on the companion show I’m A Celeb Unpacked, discussing the close relationships and time spent together while their family members were in the jungle.
One viewer critiqued: “The Coming Out show used to be so much better when we saw the reactions of the family and friends waiting when each celeb got voted out.” While fresh footage made an appearance, it was scant. Notably, Love Island star Maura Higgins executed a skydive after missing the initial group activity due to joining the camp later than others.
Radio presenters Dean McCullough and Melvin Odoom caught up over drinks, reminiscing about their experiences. Dean aired his grievances regarding the moniker he’d been saddled with for dodging camp duties.
Also seen was podcaster GK Barry, engaging in a surf lesson by the seashore, though audience members wrote off these segments as random insertions. A fan lamented: “That #ImACeleb coming out show was c***! We’d already seen most of that, then it was about a minute of them in their hotel and that’s it. (Apart from the random longer bit of GK surfing?!? ) The party looked rubbish too. What a shame when this series was decent.”
Dismay also surfaced over the coverage of the supposed post-show celebration, from which Ant and Dec were notably absent. A frustrated post read: “The party looked so dead and Ant and Dec didn’t even go to the camp. And there was so much random features like GK Barry going surfing. This wasn’t a great Coming Out show.”
I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here returns next year, catch up on series 24 on ITVX.
