Maya Jama has dismissed rumours that she will be replaced as the host of Love Island by Maura Higgins.

The 30-year-old presenter, who took over from Laura Whitmore in January 2023, took to Instagram to announce she has no plans to leave the ITV reality dating show. “I will be hosting Love Island next year and have no plans to leave right now. Filmed the promo a couple days ago actually. Fake news is fake news-ing as usual,” she wrote on her Instagram Story.

The rumours stemmed from a report suggesting former Love Island contestant Maura Higgins, 34, might take over the role. Maura recently appeared on I’m A Celebrity and previously worked as Love Island USA’s social media host and a guest presenter on Love Island Games.

Maya, meanwhile, has expressed how much hosting Love Island means to her, describing it as a dream job. In addition to her role on the show, she co-hosted the Brit Awards alongside Clara Amfo and Roman Kemp this year.

Speculation about her departure was sparked by a report in The Sun, where a source claimed Maya was considering stepping down to pursue other opportunities. “Maya adores hosting Love Island and thinks it’s a great fit for now,” the source said. “But she’s keen to leave on a high and keep her career moving forward. She has ambitions of working in America and wants to focus on primetime presenting opportunities.”

The insider added that Maura’s recent success on I’m A Celebrity has opened new doors for her, making her a potential candidate for the hosting role.

Maya’s career continues to soar, with a string of high-profile presenting gigs under her belt. She has hosted Love Island, Love Island Games, the BRITs, and Comic Relief, and was recently announced as the host of The Masked Singer for next year. Reports suggest she has earned approximately £2.5 million from her recent work.

Beyond television, Maya’s commercial appeal is stronger than ever. The Bristol-born presenter and model has featured in campaigns for major brands such as Rimmel London, Dolce & Gabbana, and JD Sports, cementing her status as one of the most in-demand stars in the UK.
