Stirling’s first ever pride event has been announced as the Scottish Pride of the Year award.

The city hosted the first edition of the even back in September and included 50 events running across the schedule celebrating the local LGBTQ+ community.

Revellers of all ages threw themselves into the day, with local businesses and restaurants offering promotions across the day, while a range of stall holders were in place offering a range of advice and services.

The event on King Street brought together a line-up of 19 performers, with DJ and producer Rebecca Vasmant and Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK star Kate Butch headlining on stage.

Acts including Eyve, Megan Black, Emma Lynne Harley and Beat That also delighted crowds on the stage, while acts such as Joe Goodall and Stirling Youth Folk Club performed at the Fubar Stage inside Fubar nightclub on Maxwell Place.

Olympic silver medal winning curler, Bruce Mouat, also helped to get proceedings kicked off as Stirling Pride’s guest of honour.

The event claimed thw gong at the Unicorn Awards 2024 by Somewhere: For Us – Scotland’s LGBTQ+ Magazine.

The award ceremony was held on Sunday, December 15, with Stirling Pride named as the Scottish Pride of the Year. That followed nominations opening earlier this year with members, readers and followers of Somewhere: For Us nominating their unsung LGBTQ+ community champions, role models, celebrity icons and allies.

Stirling Pride saw nearly 7,000 people attend the free event.

Sam Reid, Chair of Stirling Pride, said: “It’s an absolute honour to have the hard work of our committee recognised by Somewhere: For Us. They are a fantastic organisation that does so much to promote LGBTQ+ culture and enterprise, so it is really exciting for Stirling Pride to be awarded Pride of the Year in our very first year.

“I want to thank everyone who was involved in Stirling Pride 2024 from our sponsors, local businesses and organisations to the volunteers on the day. We couldn’t have done it without you and the wider Stirling community who embraced the event.”

Sam also revealed that plans are underway for the 2025 edition of the event, saying: “Our work has already begun on developing Stirling Pride 2025 and we are expanding our offer to cover rural Stirling as well. This is just the start for Stirling Pride and this award is just a great end to an exciting year.”
