LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – West Virginia State Police (WVSP) have released more details surrounding a shooting incident involving an infant.

According to WVSP, the call came in around noon Saturday as a reported accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound involving a 2-year-old.

Law enforcement responded to a home along Madison Street in the Chapmanville area.

Troopers say the victim was taken to the hospital where they died.

The victim was then taken for an autopsy.

The WVSP Crime Scene Response Team responded and conducted a crime scene examination at the home.

At this time, no arrests have been made.

The WVSP Logan Detachment will continue the investigation examining all the evidence. A determination as to whether charges will follow will be decided after deliberation with the Logan County Prosecutor.

“If in any way we find anything that would indicate whatsoever that this, any of the evidence does not point towards an accidental shooting, of course our investigation would continue on until we’re able to paint the entire picture,” said Sgt. Jamie Harris with West Virginia State Police.
