Prince Andrew has been advised to do the “the gentlemanly thing” and “uninvite himself” from the Royal Family’s upcoming festive gatherings, according to insiders.
The Duke of York is embroiled in controversy once more following revelations about his alleged ties with a Chinese businessman, referred to as H6, who is barred from the UK due to spying concerns.
After concerns were raised, Andrew announced through his office on Friday that he had “ceased all contact” with the individual in question.
However, sources now suggest that the duke, who resigned from his royal duties in 2019 over his scandalous association with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, is facing calls to distance himself from this year’s Christmas celebrations, the Express reports.
The Royal Family is preparing for their traditional pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace on Thursday and will also be seen attending church at Sandringham on Christmas Day. A source disclosed to the Sun: “There would inevitably have to be some very awkward conversations, and the King would not relish making his brother squirm.
“Andrew has managed the unthinkable and made a complete t*t of himself even before the Christmas party. t’s been a hell of a year for The Firm and the last thing they want is this scandal dragging on during a period of celebration.
“The thinking is he’s been foolish, but the more he keeps his head down, the sooner everyone can move on.” Another insider claimed to the publication: “Andrew is under pressure to step away.”
The suspected Chinese agent is believed to have gained the trust of the Duke of York, becoming a close confidant. However, a statement released by the duke’s office on Friday said: “The Duke of York followed advice from His Majesty’s Government and ceased all contact with the individual after concerns were raised.
“The duke met the individual through official channels with nothing of a sensitive nature ever discussed. He is unable to comment further on matters relating to national security.”
