A heartbroken Rangers fan has caused a stir after phoning in to confess Celtic’s dominance ruined a family birthday as he desperately pleaded for a Premier Sports Cup Final replay.

Ibrox diehard Billy, a regular on Superscoreboard, cut a bereft figure as he fumed over the decision for VAR not to intervene and upgrade John Beaton’s call for a free-kick on the edge of the box on Vaclav Cerny from Liam Scales to a penalty. Philippe Clement branded the incident “weird” as Celtic outlasted Rangers on penalties after a 3-3 thriller at Hampden. But Billy caught the Clyde 1 panel on the hop by stating “this match should be played again.”

But that was only the start of poor Billy’s strife as he admitted Brendan Rodgers’ side and their serial winners had put a dampener on pre-planed festivities. Celtic now lead Rangers in the all-time trophy list with 119 – one more than their rivals. Billy added: “We were meant to be having a family party last night and it was terrible… All of us are scunnered!”
