A body has been found in the search of a young mum who went missing in Tayside. Deksi-Leigh Whyte was reported missing from Wormit in Fife at around 1.15am on Monday, December 16.

Officers from Police Scotland, along with coastguard and lifeboat crews, were involved in an extensive search near the River Tay. A search and rescue helicopter was also mobilised from Prestwick to assist with the search.

A body was discovered near Tayport at around 10.55am yesterday.

Formal identification has yet to take place.

Tributes have already been paid to 22-year-old Deksi-Leigh on social media after the tragedy.

Leaha Heary said: “Such devastating news. We were never that close but a few times plonked off school together and stopped to have chat when we seen one an other, rest in peace Deksi-Leigh Whyte my thoughts are with your family and little one.”

Courtney Brydon said: “Deksi-Leigh Whyte. Rest in peace gorgeous girl. Forever cherish the days we had at the stables and in studio singing your heart out.. taken far too soon you were one in a million. You touched a thousands peoples hearts and you continue to do so.”

Abbi Young said: “Thinking of your family and friends, rest in peace gorgeous girl. Absolutely devastated , was only 2/3 weeks ago we bumped into each other in town and were reminiscing about the old days, love you sweet girl.”

Paige Green said: “She was a lovely lass who will be missed. She would listen and give time to help anyone struggling even though she was struggling herself.”

Lorraine Fyffe added: “So sad rip Deksi-Leigh Whyte thoughts are with your little girl and your family.”

Police say their enquiries remain ongoing but Deksi-Leigh’s death is not being treated as suspicious. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.15am on Monday, December 16, 2024, we received a report of a woman missing in Wormit.

“Officers, along with partner agencies, were involved in an extensive search of the area, and around 10.55am, a body was found near the Tayport area. Enquiries are ongoing but the death is not believed to be suspicious. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
