Dr Rangan Chatterjee, a familiar face on TV shows across BBC, ITV and Channel 4, has shared a touching social media, in which he discussed the most common regrets of those nearing the end of their lives.

Known for his appearances on programmes like Doctor in the House and This Morning, as well as hosting a popular podcast, Dr Chatterjee regularly shares health advice on platforms such as Instagram. On Monday, he told his many followers: “Thinking about the end of our lives can be difficult, but so many of us wait until then to reflect on the things we wished we’d done to lead a happier life.”

“Even in ancient Stoic philosophy, contemplating mortality – memento mori – was an important part of daily reflection, reminding people to live life fully and to clarify what really mattered. So why don’t you stop NOW, TODAY, and consider what might make you feel happier, helping you avoid too many regrets later in life?”

In a graphic accompanying the post, he outlined the five most common deathbed regrets he has encountered. He said the things people regret the most are: not being brave enough to express themselves and their feelings, not staying in touch with friends, working too hard, not allowing themselves to be happier, and not living a life “true to myself” instead of the “life that other people expected of me”
