MONROE COUNTY, W.Va. – Connie Copeland and Kathy Martin began practicing piano together in the 1960s. But in recent years, they’ve reunited for the holidays. On Dec. 17 at Stonerise Lindside Healthcare Center, they performed a variety of holiday songs for the residents, playing piano together and separately, as well as singing.
Martin said that although they’ve grown up, it’s still fun to make music together.
“We loved doing it when we were young, we used to make mistakes and giggle and have fun, and we’ve just picked it back up,” said Martin. “We don’t giggle anymore much, but it’s fun for us to get together and share what we had 60 years ago.”
Copeland added that being able to play piano together for so long is special.
“It means a whole lot to have a friend that, you know, we have such good childhood memories together and then to pick it back up as senior citizens and, you know, it is really special,” said Copeland.
The performance is special to the residents of the Lindside facility as well. Angel Williams, the Executive Director of the healthcare center, tells us that it’s always better when volunteers come by.
“It’s wonderful. The more people that volunteer here and come into our facility, the better it is,” said Williams.
The event at Lindside is one of several that Martin and Copeland perform at facilities during the Christmas season.
