Supermarket shoppers in Kilmarnock may be in for a better experience this Christmas following plans to hire a temporary parking attendant.

Horizon Parking has posted a job advert for a Christmas car park attendant at Tesco to help manage parking for festive shoppers.

One year ago, motorists were trapped in an “absolutely horrendous” gridlock in Kilmarnock town centre which saw one woman unable to exit Aldi’s car park for over an hour.

Applicants could earn up to £12.94 per hour for the four shifts on offer and will be provided with training, a hi-vis jacket and marshalling equipment.

Starting on Friday, December 20 at 10am, the successful candidate would be expected to direct customers to empty spaces and work hard to “make parking simple and easy for customers”.

The four shifts cover Friday, Saturday, and Monday from 10am to 6pm with a 10am to 4pm due on Sunday.

It is unclear which of the town’s two Tesco stores the job advert refers to.

Posted on LinkedIn, Horizon said: “Horizon Parking are looking for helpful and friendly car park marshals to assist us with traffic flow and customer parking. These are temporary roles for the week leading up to Christmas, no experience is needed, and training will be provided.

“Subject to you completing all allocated hours, along with a provided training video, you will receive an additional £1 per hour for all hours worked in your final payroll run.

“You will be directing customers towards empty car parking spaces, assisting them with loading their vehicles if needed.

“We will be looking for you to smile and greet customers and do everything possible to make parking simple and easy for customers.

“Given the nature of the role, and the fact that you will be working outside in all weather, you must wear a white shirt, black skirt / trousers, and black shoes.

“You will be provided with a warm hi-vis jacket, hat and the necessary marshalling equipment.

“Please apply online today, or alternatively call Scott Woodall, group recruitment manager, for further information on 01245 963 372.”
