TV personality George Clarke has stated that he was robbed at knifepoint with his watch swiped in the terrifying ordeal.

The How Old House New Home host shared the details of the horror incident on social media and warned his followers “I could have been stabbed“. The 50-year-old wrote: “To the little **** who stole my watch tonight… I pity you. It’s only a watch at the end of the day. Although I loved it and grafted for it. But I could have been stabbed so let it go…”

His Instagram post went on: “I’m ok. I’m just angry with myself. I wanted to hit him but I’d be the one done for assault!!!!” Fans of the presenter offered him well wishes.

One user wrote: “Be proud of yourself, that you did the right thing for you and your family. If this happened to your daughter you’d hope she would do the same thing. You have shown her the way.”

Another user penned: “Hope you are ok and weren’t hurt,” while a third said: “the watch can be replaced. You risk assessed and dis the right thing at the time.” A fourth added: ” @mrgeorgeclarke You have every right to be angry.. but not at yourself, oh no no.”

George has been a regular on the small screen for a number of years. However, he previously admitted his rise to fame came about through a happy accident. He once described himself in an interview as the “happiest man in the world” because he’s able to do what he loves every day. Other shows he has fronted include Amazing Spaces and Ugly House to Lovely House.

His career began at the age of 16 as a local architect in Washington, his hometown. However, his journey to television stardom was a fortuitous one. After being asked to write a book based on architecture, he caught the attention of a literary agent who also represented TV presenters.

There, he was invited to audition for a new show titled Build A New Life In The Country and impressed enough to land the role. Previously speaking to the Big Issue about his TV career, George said: “When I started in television, someone said we’re offering you the job because you’re really passionate about architecture and design.

“I don’t present anything else. I present programmes about architecture and design and property and houses and, you know, tree houses, caravans, camper vans, quirky business spaces. But it’s still design. So I still don’t see myself as a performer. When I get paid to wax lyrical about what I am passionate about, it is a privilege. If people watch and enjoy it, are educated or entertained by it, then I’m the happiest man in the world”.
