Two pensioners have suffered “serious injuries” following a crash which closed a major Dumfries and Galloway road for nine hours.

A black Peugeot 3008 and a white Ford Transit van collided on the A75 near Gretna at around 11.10am on Monday morning.

Two men, aged 83 and 77, were taken to hospital with what Police Scotland described as “serious injuries”.

Three other men – aged 77, 60 and 31 – were also taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police are now appealing for information about the accident, which saw the A75 closed at its junction with the B721 until 8pm on Monday night.

Sergeant Colin Ramage said: “Enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to contact us.

“We also ask anyone driving in the area at the time with dashcam footage to come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1097 of 16 December, 2024.
