Alfie Bavidge admits the weight is finally off his shoulders now he’s up and running at Ayr.
The on-loan Aberdeen kid broke his Somerset duck in style with a brace as United battered Falkirk on Saturday.
Striker Bavidge is a highly rated prospect at Pittodrie and has been farmed out to Scott Brown to continue his development.
And the Scotland under-19 star hopes he’s opened the floodgates after getting off the mark for the Honest Men.
He said: “I’ve been putting a bit of pressure on myself, which maybe I shouldn’t do.
“I’m just buzzing that the goals have finally come and it’s a great feeling. It’s been frustrating to get up and running but hopefully I can kick on now.
“Confidence is a big thing in football and goals give you the most confidence as a striker. Having a nice wee tap in was a good first goal to get but they all count the same.
“It was instinctive that I hoped the ball would drop in that area and thank god it did. Most of your goals will come in that six yard area and you have to gamble being in there.”
Ayr made a big statement with their thrashing of the runaway leaders. And Bavidge insists the Somerset side still have their sights set on the top.
He said: “It’s a massive win and we want to be challenging for the title. In order to do that we need to be winning games like these at home.
“It was a game you wanted to play in – we had lots of the ball and created lots of chances. My job was to come on at half time and try and kill them off. Thankfully I did that.”
