Arsenal and Newcastle United are both watching St Mirren’s rising star Evan Mooney.

The English Premier League pair are scouting the talented Buddies youngster, who netted his first goal in the weekend win over St Johnstone. Scout Phil Cowan has been the one who has put Mooney on their radar. Newcastle Under-21 boss Diarmaid O’Carroll is also a big fan of the 17-year-old.

O’Carroll knows Mooney and his potential well having previously been No. 2 to Stephen Robinson at St Mirren. The Buddies are aware of the rising interest in Mooney but are relaxed about the situation. He signed a three-year contract in the summer and has been a regular trainer with Robinson’s first-team in recent weeks. The teenager has already had a training stint down south with Brighton. St Mirren’s academy has proved successful in recent seasons. Wolves signed Ethan Sutherland in the summer and Crystal Palace has previously bought Dylan Reid from the Paisley club.
