Motorists in Ayrshire are being warned of further disruption on the A77 as more roadworks have been announced for the new year.
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are set to carry out “essential resurfacing” around the Bankfield and Holmston Roundabouts in Ayr.
Works will begin on Friday, January 10 and are expected to last until Tuesday, January 21 – coinciding with the end of the festive break for the works at Doonholm Road.
From 8pm on Friday, January 10 till 6am on Monday January 13, there will be a “full weekend closure” of the Holmston Roundabout.
The A70 will be closed for the weekend but traffic will still be able to travel along the A77.
Traffic from the East will be diverted along the B742 and A713 to join the A77 at the Bankfield roundabout and traffic from Ayr will be diverted along Holmston Road, Hillfoot Road and Dalmellington Road.
Overnight works will then take place on Monday, January 13 with the A77 closed from 8pm to 6am between the Whitletts and Bankfield Roundabouts.
Northbound traffic will be diverted along the A713, A70, A79 and A719 before rejoining the A77 at Whitletts Roundabout.
Southbound traffic will follow the same diversion in the opposite direction.
A final “full weekend closure” of the A77 between the Holmston Roundabout and the Maybole Road junction will then take place between 8pm on Friday, January 17 and 6am on Monday, January 20 before a final overnight closure on the Monday on the same stretch.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place at the Bankfield Roundabout during the closure for traffic between Ayr and Ayr Hospital but there will be no access to the A77.
Northbound traffic will be diverted along St Leonards Road, Carrick Road, Beresford Terrace and the A70.
Southbound traffic following the same route in the opposite direction including the appropriate sections of the one-way system in Ayr.
A spokesperson for Amey said: “Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the A77 at Bankfield and Holmston Roundabouts from Friday, January 10 until Tuesday, January 21.
“Works will commence at Holmston Roundabout with a full weekend closure between 8pm on Friday, January 10 and 6am on Monday, January 13.
“The A70 will be closed on either side of Holmston roundabout with the A77 remaining open throughout the weekend.
“There will then be one overnight closure of the A77 between Whitletts Roundabout and Bankfield Roundabout with the A70 remaining open, between 8pm on Monday, January 13 and 6am on Tuesday, January 14.
“There will then be works at Bankfield Roundabout requiring a full weekend closure of the A77 between Holmston Roundabout and the Maybole Road Junction between 8pm on Friday, January 17 and 6am on Monday, January 20, followed by a final overnight closure at this location between 8pm on Monday, January 20 and 6am on Tuesday, January 21.
“The A77 will be closed between Holmston Roundabout and the Maybole Road Junction for the duration of the works at Bankfield Roundabout.
“Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
“Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
“This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.”
