Households up and down the country are prepping their homes for Christmas. Parents are likely facing a fresh batch of cleaning challenges, including attempting to remove grubby wall marks caused by tiny fingers or the sticky residue from decorations.

Banishing these marks can be a nightmare and usually cause damage to the paint underneath. However, cleaning experts believe they have found a cheap hack that can rid those marks without causing any further issue to your paintwork. The best part is, you probably already have the 55p product in your cupboard.

While you could reach for a commercial stain remover, many of which can be toxic and pricey, this handy solution won’t even require a trip to the shops, reports the mirror.

By combining some liquid with water in a spray bottle, you’re ready to tackle the stains. Spray the mixture onto the stained section of the wall and watch as the stains easily wipe away without damaging the paint as it softens.

If you’re dealing with softened glue, use a putty knife or flat object to gently scrape away the residue. To give your solution an extra kick, or “a bit of extra oomph,” consider adding baking soda to your mixture.

Washing up liquid, which can be found in all households and costs just 55p from Morrisons, is another natural cleaning solution. White vinegar is also a great option.

A one-to-one ratio of white vinegar with warm water in a spray bottle can effectively clean away stains – just let the solution sit over the stain before wiping it away. For a more pleasant-smelling solution, try mixing one part liquid fabric softener with two parts water.

However, use this on a small section of the wall first as the fabric softener could stain the wall or leave streaks.

For those who own a clothing steamer, it can also be used to remove sticky residue. The heat from the steamer softens the glue, making it easier to wipe away.
