Eddie Stobart, the founder of the iconic trucking firm bearing his name, has passed away at the age of 95, his representatives confirmed this morning.
Born Eddie Pears Stobart, he began his career in 1946 by establishing a small agricultural business that provided contract work for farms and distributed fertiliser. He also ran a farm shop, which later evolved into the now-famous Eddie Stobart trucking company.
The firm’s first lorry, a second-hand Guy Invincible four-wheeler, took to UK roads in 1960, painted in what would become the signature Eddie Stobart green and red livery.
Mr Stobart passed away on November 25 after a lifetime of building a legacy that now includes a fleet of more than 2,500 vehicles, reports the Mirror. While he stepped back from day-to-day operations decades ago, his youngest son took over the business in the 1970s and transformed it into the haulage powerhouse it is today.
