Some of snookers biggest names, including world number one Judd Trump and veteran Ronnie O’Sullivan are in Saudi Arabia battling out for a massive pre-Christmas bonus.
The Riyadh Season Snooker pits 10 of the sport’s biggest stars against each other for a $785,000 prizepot – with an additional $1m available for the first player to make history by recording a 167 by potting a golden ball, placed midway along the top cushion, which is worth 20 points after a traditional 147 maximum. Scots star John Higgins came close last year, but nerves got the better of the Wizard of Wishaw – with world number four Mark Allen saying that he believes only Ronnie O’Sullivan is capable of scooping the prize.
O’Sullivan, Trump and world champion Kyren Wilson are among the top 10 players on snooker’s ranking list to have secured a spot, and they will be joined by two local wildcards in Abdulraouf Saigh and Ahmed Aseeri, with all the action free for fans to stream and enjoy as the players look for a dream pre-Christmas paycheque.
