A prison officer who was walking an inmate back to a cell has been attacked and killed by the “pure evil” thug. Isaiah Patrick Bias, who had worked at the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office in Texas for more than six years, was attacked on Monday afternoon at the county jail in Waxahachie.
The 28-year-old had been returning the inmate to his cell following the one hour he was allowed out of his lockup every day. On Tuesday, Sheriff Brad Norman said during a press conference Arron Semeion Thompson, 45, has been charged with capital murder over Bias’ death.
Sheriff Norman said: “Most of the time, law enforcement officers and detention officers deal with good folks having a bad day. Occasionally, we deal with bad folks. I can honestly say that my staff, over the last day, has dealt with pure evil.”
As reported by the Mirror, Norman said Bias was a family-oriented person and beloved by his fellow colleagues. He added: “He was one of the kind of guys who if you needed help, he’d come help you.”
Officials said Thompson, from nearby Ennis, has been in jail since last month on charges of assaulting a public servant, public intoxication and evading arrest. His bond in relation to this latest charge was set at $2million. Jail records did not list an attorney for him. Norman said the Texas Rangers will now investigate.
This comes after an unruly cruise ship passenger who allegedly flew into a drunken fit of rage died after his family claimed security injected him with a sedative. Royal Caribbean passenger Michael Virgil, 35, died onboard the Ensenada-bound cruise on Friday after he was detained for reportedly assaulting crew members and threatening fellow travellers. His family believes security injected him with some kind of sedative, FOX 11 reports.
The cause of Virgil’s death is yet to be determined by an autopsy, while the FBI is continuing to investigate the circumstances leading to his death. Royal Caribbean said in a statement to FOX 11: “We are saddened by the passing of one of our guests. We offered support to the family and are working with authorities on their investigation.”
