Motorists and commuters have been warned to brace themselves for challenging travel conditions today, as two yellow wind warnings come into effect. The Met Office has cautioned that gusts reaching up to 65mph could result in delays across road, rail, air and ferry services, urging those in affected areas to prepare for extended journey times and to remain vigilant of road conditions.
A warning is in place from 3am to 2pm on Wednesday, covering large sections of northern England, including Sheffield and Leeds, as well as a small portion of southern Scotland. Forecasters have predicted gusts of 50-60mph, potentially even higher in more exposed locations.
As communities across the UK are still recovering from the devastating impact of Storm Darragh earlier this month, new warnings have been issued. The fourth named storm of the season resulted in millions being advised to stay indoors, power cuts affecting tens of thousands, and train cancellations.
Tragically, two men lost their lives during the storm when falling trees struck their vehicles.
CalMac Ferries, which serves the west coast of Scotland, said services are subject to disruption on Wednesday.
Gusts of 65mph are possible in a few places, particularly along the coast.
