A woman has appeared in court charged with attempted murder following the death of James McMaster in Wishaw.

Margaret Maxwell appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Wednesday, December 18. The 47-year-old was charged with assault to severe injury, attempted murder and an attempt to defeat the ends of justice.

Maxwell, of North Lanarkshire, made no plea. She has been remanded in custody and will reappear in court within the next eight days.

Emergency services raced to the North Lanarkshire town’s Maxton Crescent after receiving reports of a body being found within a flat on Thursday, December 5. Crews attended and Mr McMaster, 53, was found dead at the scene. Following a post-mortem examination, police confirmed his death was being treated as suspicious.

Scott Chambers appeared at the same court on Monday, December 16 with the charges of assault to severe injury and attempted murder put against him. The 50-year-old man, from Wishaw, made no plea and was also remanded in custody.

Chambers will reappear in the dock in the next five days.
