BBC presenter Jenny Hill has announced her departure after 24 years. She took to X, formerly Twitter, to share news that she’s leaving her post as a foreign correspondent.
In her farewell tweet, Jenny Hill stated: “Personal update: I’m leaving the BBC today after 24 years. What a privilege it’s been to travel the world and tell people’s stories.”
She also thanked her colleagues, reports the Mirror, by saying: “Thanks to the many lovely colleagues whose talent, courage and friendship have made it such a pleasure.”
BBC News analysis editor Ros Atkins responded with warm wishes: “We’re going to miss you, Jenny. Best of luck.” Another heartfelt remark came from Chief international correspondent Lyse Doucet who wrote: “Such a distinctive broadcaster and kind colleague. So sorry to see you go Jenny.”
Admirers of Hill expressed their gratitude and good wishes, with one saying: “Thank-you Jenny for all your hard work. Hope the next chapter is awesome x,” and another commenting: “The BBC will miss you @jennyhillBBC – you are a great journalist, much admired and liked by colleagues and the audience including those in Africa. It is a big loss to the organisation. Good luck in the future.”

Jenny reflected on her time in the breakfast slot, saying: “It’s a great team at Breakfast and while I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the early alarm calls, working here is always great fun.”

The journalist’s international career took off in 2014 when she became the BBC’s Berlin correspondent, reporting on conflicts including the war in Ukraine and the Gaza-Israel clashes. Her recent social media posts suggest she intends to remain in Germany after her departure from the BBC.
Although her username still features “BBC,” her bio now states: “Former BBC Foreign Correspondent. Planning new adventures from Berlin.”
She’s not alone in exiting a longstanding position at the BBC; Gary Lineker will step down as host of Match Of The Day, while Mishal Husain delivered a touching farewell on the Today programme this week, ending a 26-year tenure.
During her last broadcast, Husain joined colleagues Nick Robinson and Justin Webb, as well as past Today presenters Sarah Montague and John Humphrys, sharing poignant reflections on her journey with the broadcaster.
She concluded her emotional goodbye with a song that resonated with her feelings on her last day.
