Sorry Hearts crashed out of the Europa Conference League after they flopped against Petrocub in a 2-2 draw which dumped them out of Europe.

Neil Critchley could barely believe his eyes as his own team made a mess of their job against the Moldovans while every other possible result went against them. But this was no tale of woe, Hearts suffered three consecutive defeats before their timid final night effort. Sergiu Platic slotted beyond Craig Gordon in the first half to silence the home crowd before Critchley’s men bucked up their ideas in the second period with a quick-fire double through James Wilson and Blair Spittal to turn the game on its head.

However, a late hammer blow came with less than 10 minutes to play as the referee awarded a penalty to the visitors for handball following a VAR review with Victor Mudrac making no mistake as he sent Gordon the wrong way. Things have been a major struggle domestically for the Gorgie outfit and this latest disappointment on the European stage will pile on more pressure.
