A huge search and rescue operation was launched on the River Forth in the early hours of Thursday morning, following reports of concern for a man. Emergency services raced to Queensferry Harbour after the alarm was raised. at 1.50am.

Police received reports a person was in the water in the vicinity of the Queensferry Crossing. Officers attended with the Scottish Ambulance Service, with the search operation said to be ongoing.

Video also captured a helicopter circling the area just before 5.00am. The Coastguard confirmed to our sister title Edinburgh Live they had also been in attendance.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Searches remain ongoing in the area of the River Forth following a report of concern for a man, which was received around 1.50am on Thursday, 19 December, 2024.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 02:06 to attend an incident in the area of the Queensferry Crossing. An ambulance and three special operations response teams were dispatched to the scene.”
