Every country has its own traditions and culture.

So when people move abroad, they can sometimes find it tricky to adjust at first. That’s exactly what happened to an American woman called Haley.

After moving to the UK, she took to TikTok to share a series of “culture shocks” that were a bit jarring to her at first. The jokey clip lists aspects of British society like being obsessed with tea and beans on toast.

In the video, which has been liked 94,300 times, she said: “I’m an American that lives in the UK and I wanted to share some of the biggest culture shocks that I’ve had since living here ’cause I don’t know, you might find them interesting.”

In her jokey video, Haley claimed a National Tea Alarm blares across the UK when 4pm rolls around. Her fictional idea would be that the alert signals people to make a cuppa.

Haley sarcastically said: “First one took me by surprise so much the first time it happened, I was like what is going on. But it’s at 11am every day when the National Tea Alarm goes off and you have to stop everything you’re doing and just relax and have a cup of tea.

“It’s like it’s really nice and chill but like, it’s quite a shocking sound that just blares across the entire country, it’s kind of crazy.”

For her next joke, Haley claimed there is a certain number of beans on toast per year which you must consume. The TikTok comedian added: “If you don’t hit that minimum, you actually have to pay a fine. So like every time you have beans on toast for lunch, there’s a dedicated government app, they also have an NHS app too, it’s similar to that.”

Then, Haley noted that men like to take their shirts off at any sign of sunshine. She said: “It’s just the way it is, it’s the rules.”

Finally, the American poked fun at the Royal Family. She claimed it’s mandatory for people to put a picture of the King up in their homes. While some do this, it isn’t the law!

Haley’s sense of humour went down a treat with TikTok viewers. One said: “This is the BEST American living in the UK by far.” Another added: “She’s truly immersed into the culture omg.”

A third joked: “My nan’s in prison because she missed the tea alarm.” And a fourth posted: “Your humour is very English now, I love it.”
