FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. – An inmate at the Mount Olive Correctional Complex has been sentenced to prison for the felony offense of Malicious Assault. The announcement was made in a press release from Anthony Ciliberti Jr., the Prosecuting Attorney for Fayette County.
According to the Prosecuting Attorney, in Oct. 2023, 32-year-old Erique Harris assaulted another inmate with a fan motor and stabbed the victim with an improvised shank.
The incident was recorded on video surveillance, and happened in the common area of the prison, the Prosecuting Attorney said. The victim suffered from internal bleeding and a collapsed lung, the Prosecuting Attorney said.
Harris was sentenced to serve 2-10 years in prison, on top of the 25-60 year sentence Harris was already serving. The Prosecuting Attorney said the sentences will be served consecutively, and Harris has to serve at least 2 additional years in prison after serving the years for his first sentence before he’s eligible for parole.
