Celtic interest in taking Kieran Tierney back to Parkhead has generated much chat.
Interestingly, it’s not all positive in terms of the Arsenal star. Tierney is set to move from the Emirates and a reunion with ex-boss Brendan Rodgers is being mooted. However, Gerard Cameron said: “Kieran Tierney is a great player, but he is also accident prone and I don’t think he would be a good investment considering the price to pay for someone who might be out a lot injured. Buy a proven left back without a list of injuries.”
Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, added: “I hope rumours that Brendan Rodgers is trying to bring Kieran Tierney back are just that. You only need to look back at another Parkhead idol who also was at Arsenal that returning to your former club never works. Bringing him back for sentimental reasons isn’t the answer. Greg Taylor has his limitations, but he’s certainly not as injury prone as Tierney and I hope a new contract deal can be agreed going forward.”
It didn’t take long for talk to go back to Hampden last Sunday with the continued fall-out and subsequent comments of SFA chief Ian Maxwell making waves. Sean McGarvey, Cumbernauld, said: “Did Celtic win a cup? Not really heard anything about it. All I’ve heard is this dodge and deflect nonsense about a borderline call. Letters flying everywhere. It’s embarrassing. When will Rangers accept defeat without wanting refs sacked, demoted or fired into the sun?”
But Stewart Rennie, Portsmouth, said: “Once again Rangers have been clearly cheated by VAR for the third time in one and a bit seasons. The SFA need to come out and be honest they don’t like Rangers and to miss this clear penalty is clearly a disgrace and heads need to roll.”
Drew Ferguson, Oban, said: “Ian Maxwell, as SFA supremo, is responsible for improving VAR performances by his employees. But not a week goes by that Willie Collum apologises for errors made. Can we improve the situation by removing the incompetent hierarchy and putting competent people in place who do accept incompetence. Its really that simple.”
Steve Macleod, Wokingham, said: “Ian Maxwell is right to highlight human nature impacting VAR. When you have Celtic fans in charge, of course, they won’t put in the forensic analysis to chop off a a Celtic goal or give Rangers a penalty as they would the other way.
“I’m surprised they didn’t rewind to look for a first half foul as a basis for disallowing the Mohamed Dionamde or Danilo goals.”
Davy Watson said: “Offer to differ according to Ian Maxwell and Mike Mulraney. Rangers should have been awarded a penalty, so VAR does work what doesn’t is the incompetent officials monitoring it.”
John Scott, Grassmoor, said: “What a stramash following the Premier Cup final. Denied penalties, keeper off his line, players escaping red cards and VAR in the mix of course. It’s a Scottish whinge-fest. The game actually lived up to the over-the-top hype that always precedes this fixture. Can’t we all grow up and acknowledge it was an exciting, entertaining game to watch. End of and move on.”
Brian Bell said: “I am astonished at the massive overreaction to the Liam Scales/Vaclav Cerny incident on Sunday. There was nothing clear cut about this matter which happened in a split second. However, the incident, in the first half, when Jefte committed an appalling foul on Nicoas Kuhn was completely ignored.”
Arrin Geddes, Irvine, concluded: “In this season of love and understanding, it’s great to see a few Hotline regulars still retain their serious dislike of all things Celtic. The festive joy this brings to the supporters of Scotland’s most successful club is immeasurable! Merry Christmas!”
