A mum has told of her horror after her daughter allegedly discovered a hidden camera in the girl’s bathroom at a highschool in Dundee.
Police were called to the secondary school after the discovery was made on Tuesday, December 17.
The female pupil was believed to have found a phone hidden inside a toilet roll holder and reported it to staff at the school.
It is alleged the device contained hundreds of videos of naked teenage girls filmed in changing rooms and toilets.
Police confirmed a 15-year-old boy has since been charged with voyeurism.
The girl’s mum told how her daughter had reached for toilet roll when she noticed the recording device.
She said: “I’m beyond horrified at what’s happened to my daughter.
“Something is so wrong with a world where your kids can’t even use the bathroom anymore without being violated. It’s disgusting.
“She deleted the video of herself straight away and then looked at the camera roll and there were hundreds of videos and images of girls naked in changing rooms and using the toilet.
“She went back to class and handed the phone to the teacher, the school contacted the police who then came to see my daughter last night.”
Outraged parents took to social media to show support for the youngster and others affected by the incident.
One person said: “Hope your daughter is okay. Time for phones to be banned in schools and colleges.”
Another said: “The school should be taking action to monitor toilets frequently.”
A third added: “This is why girls need their own safe spaces, and just highlights even more the dangers for females of all ages.”
A fourth said: “I am so sorry to hear this and hope she is okay. This sort of violation can have awful long lasting effects.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.35pm on Tuesday, 17 December, 2024 we received a report of voyeurism at a premises in Dundee. A 15-year-old male youth was charged in connection and a report will be submitted to the Youth Justice Assessor.”
A Dundee City Council Spokesperson said: “It would be inappropriate to comment on an ongoing police matter.”
