New Jersey authorities are investigating the death of a man whose body was found “in a state of advanced decomposition” by hunters in a woodland area, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said Thursday.
The gruesome discovery was reported on Saturday in the Greenwood Wildlife Management Area in Manchester Township, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said in a statement. Personnel from a half-dozen law enforcement agencies responded to the scene.
Police had not revealed the man’s identity as of Thursday.
“We are actively investigating the circumstance surrounding this death and the discovery of this deceased male’s body,” Billhimer said. “There is no known danger to the public at this time. We will release more information as the investigation unfolds.”
Greenwood is a 32,353-acre forest sprawling through Ocean and Burlington counties.
Police have still not found any answers to the mystery of a human skull found in another state-managed forested area, the Brendan T. Byrne State Forest off Route 70, also in Manchester, NJ.com noted. The February find is also being investigated.
