Netflix has shared an ‘exciting’ update about the upcoming Peaky Blinders film with a new look at Barry Keoghan and Cillian Murphy on set.
The much-anticipated movie will pick up the story of the Shelby family originally seen throughout six series of the original show. Not much is known about the story or new characters but it is believed we will see events leading up to World War II. Alongside Keoghan and Murphy, the cast also includes Stephen Graham, Sophie Rundle, Rebecca Ferguson and Tim Roth.
Now, the streaming platform has announced as part of a major update that filming has wrapped. It posted the news on its social media account with an image of its two big stars sharing a smile together on set.
Accompanied by a festive message to their followers, the post read: “And that’s a wrap! Filming has now completed on the Peaky Blinders film. Wishing a happy festive break to everyone, especially our wonderful cast and crew.”
The film will be titled The Immortal Man and is penned by the show’s creator Steven Knight. It’s directed by Tom Harper who helmed a number of episodes in the original series as well as working Misfits and This Is England ’86.
It will be a little while longer before a release date is confirmed.
Fans are delighted with the latest update from Netflix as they labelled it ‘exciting’. However, some of them are all asking similar questions. One person replied: “When is the trailer then?” with another suggesting: “Throw it up on the big screen. It’s going to shine.” A third simply added: One of my favourite shows of all time. So stoked for this movie!”
Ahead of production on the film , Murphy admitted that he revisited the show before stepping into his character’s shoes again. He told GQ: “Since I started producing – I was a producer on Peaky – you kind of have to. It kind of takes the curse off of it.
“It was very nice watching it, because it was actually quite a good show. It was also quite heart breaking, because I was watching Helen McCrory, and we lost her.
“But you can distance yourself from it, and look at and say, ‘Right, that’s the atmosphere we want. That’s the look we need, that’s the silhouette, and that’s the energy we need from it’. We need to turn it up for the movie, obviously.”
All series of Peaky Blinders is streaming on BBC iPlayer and Netflix. The film is expected to release next year.
