Former Rangers defender Borna Barisic has reportedly recommended a move for NK Osijek midfielder Marko Soldo to the Ibrox powerbrokers.
Nils Koppen and Philippe Clement are on the lookout for some January bargains and are said to be keeping tabs on the versatile 21-year-old star with the winter window fast approaching. The Daily Mail suggest that Koppen is a an admirer of the £2million rated star and “a bid in January looking increasingly likely.”
Reports in Croatia also suggest that Barisic, who left the Scottish Premiership for Trabzonspor last summer, has given a glowing recommendation to the Ibrox decision-makers to snap up Soldo when the winter window opens. While Soldo can fill a more defensive void, an attacking options is also on the agenda. Rangers are reportedly among the clubs who have shown an interest in taking Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt – but face a fight for a deal.
Gelhardt has barely featured under Daniel Farke this season – making four Championship cameos off the bench with his only start coming in EFL Cup clash with Middlesborough back in August. The Daily Mail state that the Light Blues “offer the prospect of a change of scene” but face competition from QPR, Portsmouth, Stoke City, Plymouth and Preston North End.
Going he opposite way, time looks to be running out for Alex Lowry at Ibrox. The 21-year-old has not made a first-team appearance since December 2023 and has been relegated to the Colts side.
He is out of contract in the summer and appears unlikely to earn a recall. The Daily Mail suggest “Lowry’s race at Ibrox looks to be done.”
