PECOS, Texas — Author’s Note: This updated story has the correct information
Two male Union Pacific workers have been confirmed dead Thursday morning after a train derailed and hit the Chamber of Commerce building in Pecos, Texas on Wednesday, according to Pecos Police Chief Lisa Tarango during a press conference.
The derailment happened around 5 p.m. after a train struck a tractor trailer near Oak Street and Dot Stafford Street, according to Charles Lino, the city manager for the Town of Pecos City.
The Pecos Police Department, the lead agency on the case, was dispatched to the area. Tarango confirmed during the Thursday press conference that the two Union Pacific workers were on the train when it derailed.
There were three people that were treated with minor injuries, according to Tarango.
Tarango said no names will be released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
The area where the derailment occurred is still blocked off.
