On frosty mornings, a common sight is the streak of condensation at the bottom of windows. Though it may appear innocuous, accumulated condensation can lead to harmful mildew and mould.
Clearview Secondary Glazing experts have shared the simplest method to avert window condensation, “using an extractor fan while you’re cooking, showering and bathing” can significantly reduce moisture in your home. With lower humidity, there’s less water vapour to transform into condensation.
But what exactly is condensation?
According to National Geographic: “Condensation happens one of two ways: either the air is cooled to its dew point or it becomes so saturated with water vapour that it cannot hold any more water.”
“Dew point is the temperature at which condensation happens. When warm air hits the cold surface, it reaches its dew point and condenses.”
This clarifies why humid air forms droplets on cool windows. Besides using extractor fans, certain houseplants like peace lilies, Boston ferns, spider plants, and aloe vera can absorb moisture from the air, acting as natural dehumidifiers and reducing the risk of condensation and mould spores in your home, reports the Express.
Machine dehumidifiers are also excellent devices to help lower moisture levels in the home, reducing the risk of condensation forming in the mornings.
