Dele Alli has issued an emotional goodbye to Everton as the free agent attempts to kickstart his career in Italy.
The former England star has been out of contract since June but has continued to train with the Toffees to maintain his fitness. The 28-year-old has endured a troubled couple of years on and off the park and last played a meaningful match back in February 2023 when he was on loan at Turkish Super Lig outfit Besiktas.
Once rated among the best midfielders in the Premier League, Dele is determined to make a stunning comeback and force his way back into the international fold in time for the 2026 World Cup. And ambitious Cesc Fabregas has offered the playmaker the chance to resurrect his career at Serie A outfit Como.
Dele was pictured in the stands alongside Hollywood superstars Keira Knightley, Adrien Brody and Michael Fassbender at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia as 16th-placed Como defeated Roma at the weekend. And the ex-Tottenham favourite will now strive to prove his fitness under Fabregas after officially parting ways with Everton.
In a heartfelt post, Dele expressed his sincere gratitude to the Goodison Park club and fans for standing by him during the dark days. He posted: “As widely published this week, 2025 may set me on a new path with some exciting opportunities. Before any of that happens It’s very important for me to make clear how grateful I am of all the fans, staff and players at Everton FC for the support they have given me.
“It’s been an incredibly tough journey trying to put the final pieces together to regain match fitness and I cannot thank the Everton staff enough for the hard work they have put into this process. Unfortunately things haven’t worked out as we all would have hoped and I think it’s the right time for me to turn a new page. I want to wish everyone at this amazing club the very best of luck and hopefully we will see each other again soon.”
