WEYMOUTH, Mass. (WCVB) – A woman in Massachusetts is recovering after she was attacked by a coyote while she was outside playing with her 2-year-old son.
Georgianna Orseno has bites and scratches on both her legs from the midday attack right outside her home.
A camera across the street caught the moment right before the animal pounced. It shows Orseno on the ground playing with her 2-year-old son.
“I think it was going for him and luckily I was in between,” Orseno said. “I think it got mad because I was shaking it off and then it latched on really deep, and I had to keep kicking the tree to get it to let go.”
Just minutes after the attack, a neighbor noticed a coyote coming from the direction of the victim’s yard, moving slowly and not easily scared off.
Orseno is now taking antibiotics and starting a series of rabies shots. She’s just thankful it went for her instead of her son.
“It could have been a lot worse. I mean, for it being so small and just how much it latched onto my leg, I know it could have just latched right onto my son and just dragged him wherever it wanted to go,” Orseno said. “I’m just glad that I was in between them.”
Animal control officials were near Orseno’s home Wednesday looking for the coyote. It’s unclear if they ever found it.
