Outlander’s Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have humorously clashed over their characters’ latest bout in the second half of season seven.
Starz’s beloved historical drama threw viewers for a loop when it was revealed that Heughan’s character Jamie Fraser had been lost at sea during his voyage to America and presumed dead.
Balfe’s heroine Claire was left devastated but had no choice but to marry her friend Lord John Grey (played by David Berry), who also has feelings for her husband, to avert the suspicions of the British Army.
However, it was soon revealed that Jamie had survived after all, leaving the Frasers with a rather tricky dilemma.
Once the rugged Highlander had shaken off the redcoats, he returns home to a rather irate Claire, who can’t help venting her frustrations by giving Jamie a firm slap around the face.
In a new interview clip shared on the show’s official Instagram page, Heughan asserts that Jamie “had every right” to be jealous, especially when Claire reveals she and Lord Grey had slept together.
“The argument after Jamie comes back,” Balfe recalls. “When he’s being very alpha male and jealous about Lord John Grey…”
Heughan quickly interjects: “Well, I think he’s got every right to be…”
But Balfe cuts across him: “Well, whatever. Look, you were dead, okay?”
And Heughan argues: “Yeah, but, you didn’t have to go and sleep with his best friend, or one of his friends. And marry them, and take their house.” To which his co-star remarks: “Yeah, but you got to benefit a bit off that. You got to live in the house too.”
“Oh, I got to benefit from you sleeping with my friend?” Heughan replies sarcastically. “Oh yeah, you’re right. How does that work?”
The clip was posted with the caption “Mom and Dad are fighting!!!”, and fans down in the comments were cracking up at the co-stars’ on-camera spat.
“I love this interaction almost as much as the scene they are chatting about!” one viewer replied.
Someone else joked: “He married that wench Laoghaire (Nell Hudson) and had a kid with another woman when he thought Claire was dead. He has no right to be angry [laughing emoji].”
Another posted several laughing emojis and quipped: “We’re on a break/you were dead vibes again.” “These two are hilarious,” replied one fan. “They argue off camera like [they’re] spouses. Lol.”
And a final fan passionately defended Claire: “SHE WAS DRUNK AND GRIEVING LET HER LIVE.”
Will Jamie and Claire be stronger than ever for the rest of the season or is their more marital strife coming their way?
Outlander season seven part two continues Fridays on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK and on Starz in the US.
