VANCOUVER, Wash. (KPTV/Gray News) – A Vancouver community has been left rattled after a popular food truck exploded last Sunday.
The explosion happened inside the 4 Caminos food truck in the downtown area.
“I’m very devastated,” Monica Nguyen, owner of Nail & Spa Creation, a business near the food truck, said.
Since the incident, not only is the truck out of service but so are the owners and crew.
“The building kind of shook and I was like oh my goodness what just happened,” Reshell Douglas, another nearby business owner, said. “It was a terrible accident.”
Business owners in the area said they did what they could to help the staff and family members who were inside the trailer when it exploded.
“They were inside when it happened, everyone was inside,” Christian Barrios, owner of a nearby art gallery, said. “We tried to help as much as we could, but we couldn’t do much.”
According to Barrios, he saw the blast and those injured at the scene, including the owner’s son.
“He was screaming and in pain too. Maybe because he was in shock at everything happening so fast,” Barrios said. “It was really painful to see them in that situation.”
Friends and family have since started a GoFundMe to help those injured in the explosion. They said the owner was injured, along with her son, partner and an employee.
The four were rushed to Legacy Emanuel Hospital with severe burn injuries and are still receiving treatment, loved ones said.
Business owners said the owner of the food truck, Isabel, has always been an active member of the community.
“She’s always here, she’s willing to help, she’s willing to help people,” Barrios said.
The La Casita Art Gallery & Cultural Center owner said he also placed a painting of Isabel in his business while he prays for a speedy recovery.
In honor of the family, the cultural center will be hosting an event on First Friday with the proceeds going to the family’s recovery needs.
Family members said the explosion had something to do with propane in the trailer. An official cause of the blast has not yet been released.
