Chris Dobey had a hair-raising moment at the Ally Pally after he was bombarded by GINGER WIGS.
And the Geordie ace admitted he thought Ed Sheeran was back in the building as he amusingly volleyed one back into the punters. Dobey was stunned at the conclusion of his win over Alexander Merkx when fans began lobbing the wigs onto the stage. Match referee Huw Ware advised the Newcastle star to make a sharp exit as the syrups soared.
Dobey was bemused afterwards and laughing as he said: “I didn’t know if the fans wanted me to put one on or not. I thought Ed Sheeran was back in! I don’t know, they were just throwing wigs on. Ginger wigs. It was literally just at the end of the game. Huw came over and said: Just come off. They are starting to throw stuff.
“I just booted one back into the crowd! It was just a wig. There wasn’t any dangerous side to it, it was just wigs.”
Sheeran, an Ipswich fan, was at the Palace for Friday’s play and, in a weird twist, Dobey’s heroes were in the process of hammering the Portman Road team as he was beating Merkx. Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United ran out 4-0 winners in Suffolk.
