A film hailed as ‘one of the best crime thrillers’ and directed by an Oscar-nominated director, is set to air tonight.

The 2013 release Prisoners will be broadcast on Saturday December 22, at 9pm on GREAT! Movies, available on Freeview channel 34. For those busy with pre-Christmas plans, there’s no need to fret about missing it. As of now, the movie can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.

The film features a star-studded cast including Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano and Viola Davis. Behind the scenes, the talent is equally impressive. Denis Villeneuve, a two-time Academy award nominee, directed the film before moving on to direct Dune parts one and two. The legendary Roger Deakins, a 16-time Oscar nominee and two-time winner, served as the director of photography, reports the Mirror.

Deakins’ portfolio includes films like Shawshank Redemption, Skyfall, No Country For Old Men and Blade Runner 2049. The film Prisoners tells the story of Keller Dover, played by Hugh Jackman, whose world is turned upside down when his six year old daughter Anna and her friend disappear. The police investigation, led by Detective Loki, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, initially focuses on a suspect who was parked in a motorhome on their street, but with no evidence, he is released. Faced with the possibility of losing his daughter forever, Dover takes the law into his own hands, putting his own life at risk in the process.

Critics praised the film upon its release, earning it an 81% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Even years later, film enthusiasts continue to rave about Prisoners, often citing it as one of the most intense thrillers ever made.
