With Christmas just around the corner, why not wow your guests by creating a scrumptious batch of mulled wine?

This traditional yuletide beverage is a favourite for many across the globe, typically enjoyed outdoors at a Christmas market. However, with a few basic ingredients – most of which you’ll likely already have in your cupboards – you can whip it up right at home, making it the ideal drink for your festive celebrations.

Whether you’re cosying up on the sofa for a movie night or hosting a gathering with loved ones, there’s hardly any festive event that isn’t enhanced by mulled wine. But did you know you can actually prepare it in your slow cooker?

Food TikToker Bored of Lunch, renowned for his straightforward yet tasty no-fuss recipes, shared his concoction for slow cooker mulled wine a few days ago – and it has already gained an impressive 16,000 views.

He claims all you need to create this simple recipe are eight easy ingredients and a few hours to spare. And since it’s prepared in the slow cooker, you can let this handy device do all the hard work while you pop out to the shops, prep food or tackle any other last-minute Christmas tasks, reports the Express.

Once you’re finished, you can treat yourself to a warm, spiced glass of mulled wine – filling your entire home with an absolutely delightful scent in the process.

He wrote in the video’s caption: “Honestly my favourite smell at Xmas. The smell from this will travel to every room in your house being on a low and slow heat. Perfect for a day you’re hosting or even Christmas Eve.”

To make the mulled wine, simply add all the ingredients to your slow cooker and let it cook for three hours on high or five to six hours on low.

He added: “Put this on, go and wrap all your Christmas presents and then you come back to a nice glass of mulled wine. It’s so easy and you’ll love it.”

Here’s what you need to make the slow cooker mulled wine:

  • One or two bottles of wine
  • One large orange sliced
  • Juice of an orange
  • Roughly 15 cloves pierced in the orange slices
  • One to two cinnamon sticks
  • Two star anise
  • Two tbsp honey
  • Two tbsp brown sugar
  • Shot of brandy (Optional)
  • Zest of a lemon
