The reason for Jack Butland’s Rangers absence has now been confirmed after the keeper posted a major life update on social media.
Butland was due to start for the Gers at home to Dundee this afternoon, but was hastily withdrawn from the XI after being named on the teamsheet and completing his warm up prior to the Premiership clash. Understudy Liam Kelly stepped in and kept a clean sheet as Vaclav Cerny’s strike proved enough to send Philippe Clement’s team second in the table above Aberdeen.
The Belgian refused to say why Butland was unavailable in his post-match interview, but did reassure fans that his no 1 would be back for the Boxing Day clash at St Mirren, although insisted that Butland wanted the reason kept under wraps. But now the former Man Utd keeper has shared his good news on Instagram after welcoming another baby into the Butland clan after his wife went into labour earlier in the afternoon.
There were also words of congratulations for Kelly. In his next story post, Butland shared Kelly’s own story – an image of him walking out of the Ibrox tunnel pre-match. And Butland captioned his with “deserved that partner” after kelly kept out the Dark Blues for 90 minutes.
