The NYPD is beefing up security at holiday markets around the city in response to a deadly attack that targeted a Christmas market in Germany on Friday.
“We are closely monitoring recent events in Germany and coordinating with our partners,” tweeted Rebecca Weiner, NYPD deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism. “While we have not identified any specific or credible threats to NYC at this time, resources have been deployed to various Christmas markets and other locations out of an abundance of caution.”
The German attack saw a black BMW roar at high speed into a crowded Christmas market in the town of Magdeburg, leaving at least two dead and 68 injured, the Guardian reported.
The news from the NYPD should come as a relief to the thousands of holiday shoppers expected to flood seasonal markets staged in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx that run daily until Dec. 24.
Manhattan shoppers will find the Columbus Circle Holiday Market located at 59th St. and Central Park West, the Union Square Holiday Market at University Place and E. 14th St., the Uptown Holiday Market at 116 Bradhurst Ave. at 148th St. and the Renegade Craft Fair at 125 W. 18th St., among others.
Brooklyn markets include The Makers Show at City Point located at 445 Albee Square West, the DUMBO Holiday Market at Brooklyn Flea located at 80 Pearl St. and the Holiday Market at Industry City located at 220 36th St.
Queens shoppers have the BricHouse Ceramics Holiday Market at 10-34 44th Drive while Bronx fairs include the Bronx Holiday Market at 1 Fordham Plaza.
